Moturoa Motor to the Title

Withers Coachlines Moturoa were runaway winners of the 2020 edition of the Central Women’s Federation League. In a compact, four team competition, Moturoa dropped only one game on the way to a eleven win, one loss record.

The sole defeat came mid-season in a tight affair when they were narrowly beaten by Massey FC  1-2. That blip turned out to be exactly the kick Moturoa needed as they ruthlessly scored 30 goals in the seven games that followed while conceding only 4 in that time. Chipping in with roughly 30% of the teams goals was League Golden Boot – Fernanda Toscani (14 Goals).

Being current holders of the Women’s Federation Cup, won in 2019 ensured the group had the confidence to compete in the 2020 league. A strong team culture and desire to represent the Moturoa AFC club with passion and pride were identified as key components for the success of the group.

Head Coach, Scott Manson had the following to say on the title:-

“All sides in the league this year should be proud of their achievements and commitment to make the league happen under the circumstances faced.

Among many great moments throughout the season, the most satisfying would be winning the league title at our home ground in New Plymouth. Having only 4 games at home it was a very special moment to close out the season with two games to go while wearing the Moturoa RED at home and in front of our awesome club supporters. “

He also hoped the success of the league in 2020 encourages other clubs to enter the competition and bolster the league for 2021.

For now Withers Coachlines Moturoa, congratulations and enjoy the moment.
