YORB Western Premiership

Match of the Round:

In this week’s Match of the Round, the first of the distance derbies saw Levin AFC host FC Western, with both sides looking to continue their positive early-season momentum.

Levin started the brighter of the two and were rewarded in the 20th minute when Cody Stewart found the back of the net to give the home side the lead. They continued to apply pressure throughout the first half and were able to double their advantage just before the break through Toby James, sending Levin into halftime with a deserved 2–0 lead.

FC Western responded strongly after the restart and immediately gave themselves hope when Luke Stancliffe-White struck early in the second half to reduce the deficit to 2–1. However, Levin quickly reasserted control of the contest. Olly James proved decisive, scoring twice in quick succession in the 50th and 58th minutes to restore Levin’s two-goal cushion and halt Western’s momentum.

With the game opening in the final stages, Levin continued to press their advantage. Late goals from Jordan Calder and Jesse Skinner capped off an impressive attacking performance and sealed a convincing 6–1 victory for the hosts.

While FC Western showed resilience early in the second half, Levin’s quality and depth ultimately proved too strong as they pulled away late to claim an emphatic win in the first of this season’s distance derby clashes.
