Central League 2

A closely contested fixture between Watson Integrity PN Marist FC and Douglas Villa AFC Badcock Law Magpies saw the home side edge a narrow 3–2 win thanks to a late goal from Dominic Richmond in the 88th minute. Nicholas Carrick opened the scoring in the 23rd minute for Marist with a composed finish, but the lead was short-lived as Josh McMenamin equalised just four minutes later for the visitors. Carrick struck again early in the second half to restore Marist’s advantage, only for Andrew Cox to level things up once more midway through the half. With both sides pushing for a winner, it was Marist who found the breakthrough in the final minutes, as Richmond capitalised on a late opportunity to secure all three points. The match was competitive throughout, with both teams creating chances and showing strong attacking intent. The result sees Marist take a valuable win in what was a well-balanced and entertaining encounter.

Maddison Hughes was the standout performer, netting a well-taken hat-trick with goals in the 26th, 71st, and 87th minutes. Her sharp finishing and ability to find space proved difficult for the visiting defence to contain. Megan Thomas added a fourth in stoppage time to round out a strong performance for the hosts. Taradale showed composure and control throughout, building on their earlier-season win over Palmerston North United. The result boosts their push toward the top four as the season enters its final stretch.

In this week's game of the round we had Signature Homes Palmerston North United hosting TSH Moturoa AFC. A dramatic, end-to-end contest saw Signature Homes Palmerston North United and TSH Moturoa AFC share the spoils in a thrilling 4–4 draw. Palmerston North got off to a flying start with Jacob Whitley finding the net in just the 3rd minute, but Moturoa hit back almost immediately through Tyler Webber in the 6th. The visitors then edged in front when Sam Sutton struck in the 24th minute, before Dylan Pearson equalised shortly before the break to make it 2–2. Pearson added his second just after halftime to restore the lead for the hosts, and when Patricio Lizarraga Castillo made it 4–2 in the 68th minute, Palmerston North looked to be in control. But Moturoa weren’t done — Webber pulled one back in the 80th minute before Leo Coutts snatched a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time to round off an unforgettable match.

In this weeks game of the round we had Isles Construction PN Marist Inter taking on Levin AFC Reserves. A high-scoring encounter in Palmerston North saw Levin AFC Reserves come out on top, defeating Isles Construction PN Marist Inter 6–4 in a game full of attacking football and late drama. Levin started brightly with Nicolas Blair opening the scoring in the 9th minute. Marist responded through Blake Haswell on the half-hour mark, but a quickfire double from James Dunsmore in the 41st and 43rd minutes sent the visitors into halftime with a 3–1 lead. Levin pushed further ahead after the break with goals from Jack Davis (54') and a second from Blair (57'), extending the lead to 5–1. Marist showed strong fight to get back into the match — Paul Duffin struck twice (60', 85') and Kent Stockman added another in the 88th to bring it back to 5–4, setting up a tense finish. However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Christian Harvey sealed the win for Levin with a stoppage-time goal in the 94th minute.

In this week's catch-up game we had RSM Wrinklies taking on SUBWAY Massey University FC Good Guys at Massey on Friday night. SUBWAY Massey University FC Good Guys claimed a strong 4–1 win over RSM Wrinklies, pulling away in the second half after a tight opening 45 minutes. After a goalless first half, Massey stepped up the tempo with two quick goals from Michael Hilson in the 47th and 52nd minutes. RSM Wrinklies hit back shortly after through Benjamin Pitcher in the 59th minute, narrowing the gap and setting up a competitive final half hour. However, Massey regained control when Stefan Heasman found the net in the 69th minute, before an own goal by Julz Ruaine-Prattley in the 85th sealed the result for the visitors.

 

Bill Dyer Trophy

In the semifinal of the Bill Dyer Cup, we had North End Vets hosting Levin AFC Sports. North End Vets came out on top in a lively contest, defeating Levin AFC Sports 5–3 in a match full of chances, momentum shifts, and eight goals. Levin took an early lead in the 13th minute through an own goal from Miller Johns, but North End responded quickly. Ruairidh Morrison equalised in the 18th minute and then added his second just before the half-hour mark. Aaron Mavengano extended the lead in the 34th minute to make it 3–1, before Brendan Howell pulled one back for Levin just before the break.The second half continued with high intensity. Jonathan Bopenda scored for the Vets in the 52nd minute, but Zane Hartwell responded almost immediately for Levin to keep the game in reach. Padraic Reilly then sealed the win in the 61st minute with North End’s fifth.

In the game of the semi final we had Takaro Awatapu United taking on Chillmax Takaro AFC Glory. A dramatic late flurry of goals saw Chillmax Takaro AFC Glory edge Takaro Awatapu United 3–2 in an entertaining and tightly contested match. Jamey Cocks opened the scoring for Glory in the 17th minute, and the match remained tight and competitive throughout, with both sides battling hard for control. Bailey Wynd doubled the lead for Glory in the 70th minute, giving the visitors a cushion heading into the final stages. Awatapu United mounted a late comeback, with Lachlan Kauri scoring in the 84th minute and Josh Zentveld striking just three minutes later to bring the match level at 2–2. But just as momentum looked to be swinging, Bailey Wynd stepped up again, netting his second of the match in the 89th minute to seal the win for Glory.

In this week's game of the round, we had Advanced Accounting Takaro AFC Rebels taking on Wanganui Marist Wanderers. Advanced Accounting Takaro AFC Rebels delivered a commanding performance to claim a 6–1 victory over Wanganui Marist Wanderers, with goals spread across both halves in an impressive attacking display. Gavin Eades got the Rebels off to a strong start, scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes (7’ and 19’). Wanganui briefly pulled one back through James O’Connor in the 23rd minute, but Renae Brown restored the two-goal cushion before the break with a well-timed finish in the 38th. The Rebels continued their dominance in the second half. David Phillips struck twice in the space of 10 minutes (60’ and 70’), extending the lead and putting the result beyond doubt. Thai Human capped off the performance with a late goal in the 88th minute to round out a comprehensive win.

In this week's game of the round, we had Central Business Innovation NP Rangers Women’s 1sts taking on Chapple Architecture PN Marist Mayhem. In a key top-of-the-table showdown, Chapple Architecture PN Marist Mayhem came away with a vital 3–1 victory over Central Business Innovation NP Rangers Women's 1st's. Marist struck early through Brooke Argyle in the 15th minute, but the Rangers responded quickly with Ruby Stenning leveling just two minutes later. The second half belonged to Marist, who secured the win with goals from Kate Pemberton (68') and Paige Charlton (84') to strengthen their position at the top of the standings. This result keeps the title race exciting as both teams continue to battle for supremacy.
