
Weekly Football Review for Manawatu 15th/16th April 2023
Lotto Central Federation League – Round 2
The Lotto Central Federation League moved into week two with Thirsty Whale Napier City Rovers Feds continuing their early season good form by winning 3-0 when hosting Watson Integrity PN Marist FC at Bluewater Stadium. The win sees Rovers sitting alone on top of the table with six points and a 100% record with Harry Mason bagging all three goals in the game to lead the Golden Boot race so far with four strikes in two matches. ALH Limited Gisborne Thistle opened their campaign on the weekend with an away trip to Shani’s Taradale AFC with both teams having to settle for a 1-1 draw. Jimmy Somerton netted for Thistle in his return match for the club while Brandon Josling got the goal for Taradale which sees Taradale occupying second on the ladder with and unbeaten record. Bayley’s Palmerston North United had the Bye last weekend but look forward to the Manawatu derby this coming weekend.
Women’s Federation League – Round 2
Round 2 in the Women’s Federation League saw Moturoa AFC Feds picking up another 4-0 win this time away to league new comers Havelock North Wanderers Women’s Feds at Guthrie Park. Moturoa shared the goals around with Jenna Barry, Danielle Lucinsky, Paige Hareb and Fernanda Toscani all picking up one. The win sees Moturoa the early season league leaders and the team to catch with Toscani ahead in the Golden Boot race with three for the season so far. In the other match at Yarrow Stadium in Taranaki ATLAS NP Rangers AFC Women’s Feds hosted OneStaff PN Marist Women’s Reserves and is was the Manawatu side that went home with all three points after winning 4-2 but it took three late goals to do so. Aimee Erskine got a first half goal for Marist in the 41st minute before Rangers struck either side of half time through Jasmine Burnard-Leppinus and Sophie Magon. Then three goals in the 84th minute, 87th minute and 90th minute by Sarah Hughes, Paige Charlton plus Bridie McFadzean napped Marist the win. Kitchens By Healey Palmerston North United had the Bye and start their season this weekend with a trip to Havelock North Wanderers in a Round 1 catch up game.
YORB HORIZONS PREMIERSHIP
At Wembley Park Wanganui City welcomed Teamlewis Feilding Utd AFC. Daniel Aplin gave the home side an early lead with a 7th minute goal. That was however a wake-up call for the visitors who responded with Three quick goals of their own through Michael Whitmore, Youngjae Lee, and Mathew Hansen. Feilding taking a 3-1 lead into the half time break. City pulled a goal back early in the second half thanks to Max Davidson. Feilding however were able to hold city out for the remainder of the match and claim a valuable 3-2 win away from home.
Also, at Wembley Park GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic Reserves hosted Youm Marist Reserves. Athletic were able to continue their great start to the season with a 7-2 victory in this match thanks to goals from Perry Stewart, Tre DeJohn, David Garner, Joshua Smith (2), Ryan Slight, and Zak Papworth. Alex Harold scoring a double for Marist.
Longchill Takaro Jokers took on Levin AFC at the Ashhurst Domain. In what was an exciting match it was the visitors who jumped out to an early lead within 10 minutes thanks to goals from Carlos Byers and Jayden Watson. Takaro then responded with goals from Phillip King and AJ Toki as the score drew level. Oliver James netted for Levin just before half Time to give the visitors a vital 3-2 lead heading to the break. James extended Levin’s lead in the 57th minute before a Blair Lankshear brace in the 79th and 83rd minutes once again seen the scores all locked up with only a few minutes remaining. It was Oliver James with his 3rd goal of the match in the 90th minute that that ultimately gave the visitors a thrilling 5-4 victory on the road to pick up their first win of the season.

PNBHS 1st XI welcome GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic Reserves to the Arena Manawatu for Friday Night Football. Athletic have made a great start to their season and will be looking to continue that form against a quality Boys High side who will be looking for their second win of the season. This is sure to be a great match.
360 LOGISTICS CHAMPIONSHIP
At the Ashhurst Domain Chillmax Takaro Titans hosted Levin AFC Reserves. This match was always going to be close. Blair Lankshear gave Takaro the lead as they went into the break with a 1-0 lead. Liam Dewar equalised for Levin in the 49th minute. Both sides gave it their all to try and find the winning goal however it was not to be found as the match ended in a 1-1 Draw.
At Massey University the Palmerston North United Development team hosted PNBHS 2nd XI.
The students got off to a flying start with early strikes from CJ Reid and Al Bara Al Sakkaf. United worked their way back into the match and thanks to a 40th minute goal from Ashraf Muhammad-Ali reduced the deficit as Boys High went to the break with a 2-1 lead. Both sides created opportunities after the break however it wasn’t until the 87th Minute that Josh Dagnall grabbed United’s second and the match ended in a hard fought 2-2 Draw.
Linton FC and Isles Construction Marist Inter went to battle at the Domain in Ashhurst. First Half goals from Charlie Parker and TJ Matenga proving the difference as Marist inter claimed a 2-0 Victory to get back to winning ways.

Both sides are near the top of the table and will be looking to take the points from this match.
MANAWATU DIVISION 1
Takaro Jhapa United hosted Red Sox Wrinklies at Celaeno Park. A first Half Andrew Roydhouse hattrick giving the wrinklies a 3-0 lead heading into the break. Campbell Devaney extended the lead just after the half time break. Ramesh Chhetri pulled one back for Takaro soon after before Adam Rose added another for the wrinklies and Roydhouse netted his Fourth on the day as the match ended 6-1 to Red Sox Wrinklies.
At the Ashhurst Domain Takaro Rebels welcomed Levin Colts. A strong first half from Takaro seen them jump out to a 4-0 halftime lead thanks to goals from Evan Roberts, Joseph Araya-Lopez, Thai Human, and an Own Goal. Josh Draper made it 5 in the 70th minute before Xavier August-Bellamy grabbed a late consolation goal for the visitors as the match ended 5-1 to Takaro.
At Massey University it was the Massey Good Guys up against the North End Old Boys. Both sides exchanged early chances however it was the Old Boys who took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to a well taken Penalty from James Kelly in the 38th Minute. Matt Wallace doubled the lead for the old boys in the 55th minute before the Good Guys responded with goals from Connor Tunnicliffe and Cole Freeman. The match was delicately poised with 15 minutes to play however North End managed to find a second wind and three late goals from Crispin Moore, Josh Scales and William Hodge meant they were able to claim a hard earned 5-2 win.
In the Marist Derby at Celaeno Park it was Freedom Plus Bulldogs up against Smartphone Repairs Celts. Sam Roebuck put the Bulldogs ahead in the 17th minute before Bailey Wynd equalised for the Celts in the 27th minute and it was 1-1 at the break. Javed Khan then put the Celts ahead at the 67th minute mark before an unlucky own goal by the celts drew the Bulldogs level in the 83rd minute. The match was looking like a draw until a 90th minute Penalty was awarded to the Bulldogs and the ever-reliable Sam Roebuck stepped up to convert and he gave the Bulldogs a thrilling 3-2 as they claimed Marist bragging rights.

MANAWATU DIVISION 2
At Ashhurst Domain the Red Sox Saints were up against Mad Butcher Takaro Fury. Elijah Houlahan giving the saints the lead after 40 minutes as they went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Takaro drew level in the 50th minute through an own goal. The winning goal came in the 60th minute from Charlos Wakur as the saints claimed a tough 2-1 Win on the day.
At Donnelly Park Levin Sports welcomed McDonalds Feilding Utd Development. Levin Sports picking up a 2-1 win in this match thanks to a Michael Collis brace. Caleb Christiansen scoring for the away side.
North End Vets and N&R Builders Marist Park Rangers were involved in a 7-goal thriller at Hokowhitu Park. Kyle Pilcher gave North End the lead in the 20th minute before Richard Penney, Liam Outtrim, and Zubair Ali netted for Marist as they took a 3-1 lead to the halftime break. Kuda Ngwerume pulled on back for North End before Jani Shofi extend the lead again in the 62nd minute. An 89th minute own goal by Marist closed the gap and made for a thrilling last couple of minutes. Marist managed to hold on to the lead and claimed a thrilling 4-3 win on the day to continue their good start to the season.
At Dannevirke High School the Rangers hosted the Red Sox A’s. Red Sox claiming a valuable away win by 3-1 as they bounce back to winning ways. Dannevirke’s Goal coming through Sam Raffaelli in the 79th Minute.
CAC Marist Greenies were comfortable winners at Hokowhitu Park as they accounted for the Massey University Rigs 5-0. Bailey Forrest with a Hattrick and Brendan Hurley a brace were the scorers for the Greenies.

Red Sox A’s vs Red Sox Saints both sides are coming off good wins and this match is sure to be a cracker. Who will claim club bragging rights in this one.
MANAWATU DIVISION 3
At Donnelly Park the Levin Socials took on an in form Groombridge Electrical Feilding C Team. It was Feilding who continued that form in this match as they ran out comfortable 6-0 winners on the day.
At Hokowhitu Park Drillco North End Socials were up against the high flying JRM Automotive Marist Royals. The sides went to the break all locked up at 3-3. The second half however belonged to Marist as they eventually took the match 7-3 with a dominant second half performance. Scorers for Marist Isaiah Salawalak (4), Seumus Flanagan, Christian Tot, Own Goal. North Ends goals coming via a Callum Waller Hattrick.
At Bush Park Post Office Hotel Pahiatua FC continued their winning ways as they edged a Valliant Red Sox Hustlers 3-2. Goals for the home side coming through Liam Williamson, Jordan Chard, and Jakob Stone.
Manawatu Plunderers ran into a rampant Takaro Glory Side at Ashhurst domain as Takaro took this one by 8-0 as they bounced back to winning ways. Goal Scorers for Takaro: William Chaffe (4), Madison Buchanan (2), Finn Hardy, and Joshua Barrington.
At the Woodville Rec Grounds Woodville AFC and Takaro Bua United played out a second consecutive 1-1 Draw on the pitch in as many weeks. Goal Scorer for Takaro: Niten Prasad Sahei.
Game of the round (4):
JRM Automotive Marist Royals take on Post Office Hotel Pahiatua FC at Ashhurst Domain. These teams are currently 1 and 2 on the table and therefore will both be looking to take the points from this match. This is sure to be a cracking game.
MANAWATU MASTERS DIVISION
At Celaeno Park the Red Sox Old Boys and Wanganui Marist Wanderers played out an entertaining 4-4 draw. Scorers for Red Sox: Glen Voysey, Evan Leonard-Jones, and David Carr, Unknown. Scorers for Wanganui Marist: Andrew Gilberd (2), Ben Murphy, and Gerard Luby.
In the Marist Derby it was the Banshees who came out on top 3-0 over the Resonant Masters. Rhys McKinlay, Krish Lal, and Mark Jacobson with the goals in this match.
At Donnelly Park the Levin Vets were 2-0 winners against MKM Marist Shamrock Rovers.
At Celaeno Park an in form Red Sox Legends welcomed the Jennian Homes Feilding Masters who were looking to re capture their winning form. They were able to do so here with a convincing 5-0 Victory away from home. Scorers for Feilding Mike Lewis (2), Alex Willis (2), and an Own Goal.
Game of the round (4):
1 v 2 as Marist Banshees welcome Levin Vets to the Ashhurst Domain. This is sure to be a great match and neither side will be wanting to give the other an inch in what is turning out to be a very tight competition. This is sure to be an exciting match.
TEAM ROBINSON MANAWATU WOMEN’S
At Donnelly Park Levin Women welcomed Chillmax Takaro X-Force. A first half brace from Alana Holroyd followed by a second half brace to Waimereni Hudson enough to give Takaro a convincing 4-0 Victory against a brave Levin side to start the season.
Massey Reserves welcomed Takaro Harlequins to the University. Massey claiming an 8-0 Victory in this match against a Valliant Takaro side who kept fighting until the very end. Special mention goes to Annelies Moore who was brilliant in goal for Takaro making a number of top class saves. Scorers for Massey were Breanna Keenan, Amy Wells, Amy Macaulay, Megan George, Hannah Carey, Brie Meehan, Dana Herbison, and Leah Dixon.
Tranzit Marist Mysteries welcomed Dannevirke Valkyrie to Hokowhitu Park where both sides played out a goalless draw as the match finished 0-0. It is great to see Dannevirke Women’s team back in the competition for 2023.
At Timona Park Rosco's Bulk Yard Feilding Utd AFC Women's 1st's hosted LJ Contracting Takaro Avengers. After a goalless first half it was Learne De Vries that gave Takaro the lead in the 59th Minute. Feilding were not giving in however and kept fighting, they were rewarded for their efforts with an equalising goal in the 82nd minute from Ella Payton. The remaining few minutes were very tense but neither side could grab the winning goal and the match ended in a hard fought 1-1 draw.
At Hokowhitu Park Isles Construction Marist Development took on the Massey University Golden Girls. Aimee Ford gave Marist the lead just before the half time break. Massey cam out firing in the second half and scored 3 goals in five minutes through Lily Galloway, Sarah-Lee Gurnick, and an Own Goal to put them in front. Although both sides had further opportunities the score remained the same and Massey held on to claim a 3-1 victory on the day.

Chapple Architecture PN Marist Mayhem take on Rosco's Bulk Yard Feilding Utd AFC Women's 1st's at Hokowhitu Park. These sides played out some thrilling matches in 2022 and this one also promises to be another exciting match.
