Central Football name three new Life Members at AGM

Central Football held their 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday 16 May 2021 and their first via virtual means as the meeting was run over a Zoom link. The meeting was notable for the bestowment of Life Membership to three well deserving members in Raewyn Nairn (Taranaki), Terry Huffam (Hawkes Bay) and former long standing Central Football Board member Kevin Palfreyman (Manawatu).

Raewyn Nairn, a popular and longstanding identity in the Taranaki football community was recognised for her more than 30 years of involvement across playing, officiating, and supporting the game, particularly in the women’s space. In recent years Ms Nairn has created some fantastic memories for the local football community. This has been via her vast catalogue of newspaper clippings, photos and regular social media posts celebrating the history of women’s football in the region.

Hawkes Bay local, Terry Huffam is a Life Member of Hastings Hibernian and has been involved in football in the region for over 40 years. In this time, he has held many roles in the game including President of the Hastings Rovers Junior Football Club, coaching across various junior levels of the game and as a match official, a role he has undertaken since 2004.

Mr Huffam was recognised in 2004 at the Hawkes Bay Sports Awards with an award for Services to Football and again in 2015 for his work as a volunteer in the game across many years.

Manawatu based Kevin Palfreyman served on the Central Football Board for nine years, retiring at the 2020 Annual General Meeting, and during that significant length of tenure made an enormous contribution to the Board and game. Current President and very keen supporter of the Takaro Football Club, Mr Palfreyman always has the welfare of players close to his heart, and in particular so in the junior space where his wise counsel was invaluable to both the Board and the local football community. His work alongside the Takaro club in the diversity and inclusion space is highly commendable with the focus being on providing opportunities for immigrants and those less fortunate to participate in football.

Central Football Chair, Jamie Hall, commented that all three new Life Members were extremely deserving of the honour and paid tribute to the many years of volunteer involvement they had all contributed. “It is heartening to see the continued level of commitment that so many of our stakeholders make to the game. Raewyn, Terry and Kevin are all outstanding examples of that commitment and we congratulate them on this well-deserved acknowledgement”.

In other business covered, current Chair Jamie Hall (Hawkes Bay) was re-elected unopposed to a further three-year term on the Board while appointed Board Members Kerry Donovan (Poverty Bay) and Gary Mackenzie (Whanganui), both of whom retired by rotation were appointed for further terms.
