Taranaki Weekly Football Review - 5th & 6th September


Yorb Taranaki Men’s Premiership

The Premiership title race is the closest I can ever remember as we have three teams tied on 34 points and one on 32 points. Flooring Design Moturoa knocked over league leaders Rampage Fitness FC Western to keep the Challenge Trophy but also keep their title hopes alive. The win meant they brought FC Western back level on points with NPBHS 1st XI and Peringa United. Both these sides picked up close wins with NPBHS 1st XI getting the 0-2 away win against Spectrum Decorating Woodleigh with goals in either half and Peringa the 1-2 away win thanks to double from Colin Campbell who continues his great scoring form. NP Rangers got their second win for the season in a close 4-3 win when hosting Smith & Sons Eltham with braces to Blake Fairweather for Eltham and for Rangers Simon Bush plus Luke Snellgrove against his former club. Previously last Thursday under lights Kitchen Draw Inglewood hosted Rough Habits Hawera with Inglewood picking up the win 2-1. 

 

Taranaki Duff Rosebowl

All four Quarter Finals were played on Sunday with Rough Habits Hawera hosting Kitchen Draw Inglewood with Hawera reversing the result from Thursday evening and winning 3-2. Proglaze Waitara continue their cup run by beating NP Rangers away 1-2 and will now travel down to Hawera to play them in the first Semi Final. Peringa United were too strong when they were hosted by Smith & Sons Eltham, the away team winning 2-8 with doubles to Colin Campbell, Ryan Hall and Pacey Healy. Peringa will now host Rampage Fitness FC Western in the second Semi Final after Western also reversed their Premiership result by beating Flooring Design Moturoa 3-1 at home thanks to a Jordi Fettis brace.

 

Taranaki Men’s Championship

TreeHouse NP Rangers defeated Eltham 3-1 to hang onto the Challenge Trophy for another week but also keep the pressure on Cunningham Construction Kaitake who are still at the top but only by one point. Kaitake hit back from their draw last week to knock over fourth placed Bounceback Physio Peringa 9-0 with a hat-trick to Jonathan Diego Rodriguez Gomez. NPBHS 2nd XI won away 1-3 to Woodleigh, Jones Quarry Moturoa drew 1-1 with Millwards Roofing FC Western and in the final match Inglewood won 3-2 at home over Mark Frost Electrical Hawera with Jack Thomas getting two goals for Inglewood. 

 

Taranaki Men’s Division 1

The weekend saw the conclusion of the Division 1 league for 2020 with Champions Hutchins Dick Peringa Pirates winning again this time 1-8 over KP Joinery Waitara with Brad Hickling rocketing home four goals to secure the Division 1 Golden Boot for 2020. Runners up NP Rangers Oddbodz finished their league season off with a 0-2 away win against third place FDMC Senior Team, Withers Coachlines Moturoa had to settle for a 2-2 when McDonalds Stratford got the late equaliser through James Pick and Wonder Minerals Kaponga had the Bye.

 

Taranaki Men’s Division 2 – Top 5

This league also concluded on the weekend with a hugely exciting finish to the season. In came down to the final match of the year between Taranaki Thru Tubing NP Rangers and Paul Hamlin Build Eltham with Eltham needing to win to lift the trophy and Rangers a draw or win. It was Rangers who broke the hearts of Eltham with the 3-2 win with Rangers last two goals being scored in the last 5 minutes of play for them to be crowned Champions. FC Western finished their campaign in third after winning 4-1 at home over Pipeline Peringa and Kaitake had the Bye but still finished runners up with player Adrian Wright winning the Golden Boot for 2020.

 

Taranaki Men’s Division 2 – Bottom 5

Town & Country Foods Waitara finished their season off when they defeated Stratford 3-1 at home, 4U Computer Solutions finished off with an away win against Inglewood 1-2 and Taranaki Tyre Torque Woodleigh had the Bye. 

 

Tungsten Legal Women’s Premiership – Top 6

NPGHS Premier Team were crowned Champions last week and added the Challenge Trophy to the cabinet for 2020 when they won 5-1 against EZE Wash NP Rangers with Eva Hilliam netting a hat-trick to claim the Golden Boot as well for 2020 with 27 strikes. TSH Moturoa became runners up after defeating Naki Electrical Waitara 0-3 with Kate Phipps scoring three but having to settle for runners up in the Golden Boot race with 25 goals. Inglewood finished the league off with a 0-1 away win over Hipp Accounting Hawera. 

 

Tungsten Legal Women’s Premiership – Bottom 4

There was only one matched played on the weekend with Liquid Beanz Peringa getting a big 9-0 victory against Worley Woodleigh with two goals each to Rebecca Sumpter, Kristin Normanton and Taylor Chadfield. Stratford default to Eltham in the other match. There is still one week to go in this competition before the teams move focus to the Duchess Plate.
 

Lotto Central Federation League

Peggy Gordons NP Rangers striker Mark McGrath has scored his third triple in three weeks to record a hat-trick of hat-tricks and he now leads the Golden Boot race. His side travel away to take on North End and headed home with the 1-4 victory which now has Rangers moving to the top of the table as GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic had the Bye. Watsons PN Marist had a huge 0-8 away win against Levin AFC with Elijah Smith, Melvin Rumere and Adam Cowan all scoring doubles. The last Saturday match was a thriller which ended 3-3 between Breakers Red Sox and Building King Havelock North Wanderers. When Stefan Kitching-Nicholson scored in the 85 minute for Havelock it looked like they were taking all three points back to the Hawke’s Bay but Red Sox were given a penalty in the 90th+3 minute which was slotted home by Lee Rufer to complete his brace. In the Sunday match Alexander Electric Napier Marist hosted Isles Construction Massey University with the home side striking three times in the first half to make it hard for Massey to get anything out of the match and Napier eventually ran out winners 5-2, Liam Percy-Fysh netting twice.
