Congratulations Jono Taylor from Havelock North Wanderers who has won the latest Valuable Volunteer award for Hawke’s Bay. Jono was nominated for his contribution on the board and as President of the Havelock based club.
Jono played the majority of his football in Wellington before stepping away from the sport when he and his wife relocated to Hawke’s Bay. However, a persuasive friend named Theunis convinced him to dust off his boots and join the HNW O’Briens Plumbing Mercenaries team. From that point on, Jono's involvement in the club became a significant part of his life.
After several years of playing, Jono made the decision to join the HNW Board. He dedicated a couple of years to this role until fellow club members suggested that he consider running for the position of president. Encouraged by their support, Jono attended the Annual General Meeting and put forth his name as a candidate for the presidency. His nomination was accepted, and he has held the position ever since.
Jono says he couldn’t do that role without the amazing people around him “My role as president is dealing with all things to do with the club, dealing with Central Football for game changes, disciplinary things and just general running of the club. However, I wouldn’t be able to do all of this without my team around me. They are Tania who is our club admin, Ben who is our club manager, Matt who is our treasurer, Maria who is our Secretary and Naomi and Jess who are organising our grants for the club. This team rocks!”.
Jono’s contributions to the club and the sport are truly appreciated. The Football Community is grateful for all your hard work and we want to recognize you as this month's Valuable Volunteer.
