Boy's Youth National League Preview 2023


The Youth National league kicks off this weekend and will be made up of two pools (both with 6 sides) who play a single round robin to determine pool placings. The top placed side from each pool will automatically qualify for the championship phase. Second placed from each pool will play a qualifying match with the winner taking the third spot in the championship phase from the Youth Central League.

A total of thirty-two (32) Participants shall participate in the BYNL Season based on the below composition: 

Eleven (11) Participants within the Youth Northern League; 

Twelve(12) Participants within the Youth Central League; and 

Nine (9) Participants within the Youth Southern League. 

A total of eight (8) Participants will qualify into the Championship Phase at the conclusion of the Regional Phase, based on the below composition: 

Top three (3) placed Participants from the Youth Northern League 

Top three (3) placed Participants from the Youth Central League 

Top two (2) placed Participants from the Youth Southern League

'FC Western was absolutely delighted to have 47 of the most talented Taranaki players register for the Boys Youth National League trials and they came from just about every club and school in Taranaki. We thank all the players that trialled and for their willingness to showcase their skills which is commendable. After a difficult selection process we finally settled on a squad of 23 players to represent FC Western and Taranaki at a National level and we can't wait to take the field this Saturday at Lynmouth Park against Stop Out.'
