Chatham Cup – Preliminary Round
ANZAC Day brought with it two Chatham Cup matches between four Central Federation sides with both games over in Taranaki. It was two Premiership squads up against two Federation League squads with the teams in the higher league coming out on top. Firstly Woodleigh FC celebrating it’s 40th Year Anniversary entered the cup and host Whanganui Athletic at Sutherland Park with Athletic winning 4-0 thanks to a second half brace from Charlie Meredith. FC Western hosted the other match at Lynmouth Park against PN Marist FC with Marist taking the 3-0 win, Melvin Rumere scoring either side of the break to help the visitors into the next round.
Men’s/Women’s Federation Leagues
Both Federation Leagues had paused because of the National Cup round but we still had three games played across both competitions as teams had catch up games to be played. In the Men’s Federation League on Saturday Isles Construction Massey University travelled over to Hawke’s Bay to take on Napier City Rovers with Massey scoring twice early in the second half to head home with the 2-0 win. On Sunday in the Women’s Federation League OneStaff PN Marist hosted Team McGhie Football Whanganui with the teams ending the match in a 0-0 stalemate. Finally on Monday the men’s league was back on again with ALH Gisborne Thistle winning 3-2 at home over Napier City Rovers with a late goal by both sides keeping things interesting to the final whistle.
Duff Rosebowl Round 1 and Nimmos Cup Preliminary Round
On ANZAC Day we had three cup matches played with Smith & Sons Eltham hosting Peringa United in a Duff Rosebowl Round 1 fixture and it was Peringa who advanced to Round 2 of the competition after winning 4-0 thanks to a hat trick from Domenico Squatriti. Two Nimmos Cup Preliminary Round matches were played with Proglaze Waitara getting over the line to win 2-1 at home over 4U Computer Solutions Hawera. The other Nimmos Cup game was a FC Western derby between Marty Suchy Harcourts FC Western and FC Western Flaming Wolverines with the Division 1 side Wolverines taking the game 12-3. Adam Lashin netted four goals, Shaun Bracegirdle three and Luke Stancliffe-White two for the Wolverines with Julian Corral scoring a consolation brace for the Division 2 side.
Tungsten Legal Taranaki Women’s Premiership
Inglewood AFC played out a tough match at home to Hipp Accounting Hawera with Inglewood just getting over the line 2-1 and TSH Moturoa drew 2-2 at home to NPGHS 1st XI, Brooke Carter bagging a double for Moturoa. NP Rangers AFC won 14-0 away to Kaitake FC, four goals to Reyse Andrews with three goals each to Holly Andrews and Lilly Dowsing. Hannah Andrews scored five goals and Ashleigh Day four as Liquid Beanz Peringa United won 11-0 away at Tungsten Legal Stratford. Naki Electrical Waitara got a 18-0 win when hosting Bullitt Fabrications Eltham, Rebecca Busteed getting seven goals with hat tricks to Kirsten Keighley and Sharnele Murray. Excel Refrigeration Moturoa kept the Challenge Trophy with a 29-0 home win over Worley Woodleigh, Fernanda Toscani scored eight goals, Julie Withers five and Bonnie Parker five.
Yorb Taranaki Men’s Premiership
Only two matches went ahead in the Men’s Premiership on Saturday, the big game between TMT Building Ltd Moturoa and Atlas NP Rangers went right down to the wire and took a 86th minute winner from Hamish Pittams to secure NP Rangers the 2-1 win. In the other match Challenge Trophy holders Rampage Fitness FC Western won 9-0 at home over Novotel Woodleigh with Ethan O’Halloran bagging three goals and Matthew Sanger two. The matches between Smith & Sons Eltham vs Peringa United and Rough Habits Hawera vs KP Joinery Waitara were postponed to a later date.
Taranaki Men’s Championship
Inglewood AFC continue to lead the league but could only manage a 2-2 draw against Cross Country Rental NPBHS 2nd XI with Bevin Lehrke in the goals again for Inglewood this time scoring a brace. Landmark Homes FDMC Senior Team hold onto second place on the table but they were also held to a draw by Mark Frost Electrical Hawera 3-3, Kieran Cummings netting twice for FDMC. Cunningham Construction Kaitake won 2-1 when hosting Smart Rehab & Physio Peringa United and Millwards Roofing FC Western also won at home by 5-0 over Spectrum Decorating Services Woodleigh with Western retaining the Challenge Trophy. In the final match two goals from Matthew Rodger helped Trafficr NP Rangers win 3-1 away at Western Autos Moturoa.
Taranaki Men’s Division 1
League leaders Shining Peak NP Rangers Oddbodz won 6-0 away to Paul Hamlin Builders Eltham with braces to Luke Snellgrove and John Hight. Taranaki Thru Tubing NP Rangers sit in second place after winning 6-0 at home over Withers Coachlines FDMC Development Team, Daniel Dornan-Rouse scoring two goals. A hat trick from Keith Towning got Withers Coachlines Moturoa over the line with a 3-2 when hosting Wonder Minerals Kaponga and a brace from Benjamin Brett helped Proglaze Waitara win 5-1 away at Inglewood AFC. The last match between McDonalds Real Estate Stratford and FC Western Flaming Wolverines was defaulted by Stratford.
Taranaki Men’s Division 2
Marty Suchy Harcourts FC Western retained the Division 2 Challenge Trophy plus sit on top of the table after winning 9-1 at home over Rob Mason Electrical Group Woodleigh, Mark Leuthard scoring three times with both Kayden Playle and Andrew More netting twice. Egmont Texturers NP Rangers won 3-0 away to Peringa United Socials and Stratford AFC Reserves won 2-1 away to Inglewood AFC. The only other match played ended in a 3-3 draw between Webber Building Kaitake and Pipeline Peringa United, Paul Cunningham scored a brace for Kaitake with Zheng Han also getting a brace for Peringa. Town & Country Foods Waitara defaulted to 4U Computer Solutions Hawera in the final game.
