Lotto Men’s Federation Cup
Round 1 action took place over the long weekend with four games completed and the four winners joining 12 teams that had the Byes into Round 2. On Saturday Wanganui Marist Celtic faced off with Heavy Equipment Gisborne United at Western Rangers home ground St Leonards Park which was a neutral venue for the two teams in Hastings with United just doing enough to win 2-1 thanks to a 84thminute winner from Dane Thompson. On Monday we had two neutral games at Skoglund Park in Manawatu with Federation League side ALH Gisborne Thistle winning 3-1 over Rough Habits Hawera and two goals from Domenico Squatriti helped Peringa United Premiers defeat Havelock North Wanderers Premiers by 4-1. The last game was at Wembley Park where the hosts GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic Reserves went down 3-2 to Massey University FC Reserves, Gwylym Hamilton netting twice for Massey.
Lotto Central Federation League
The Match of the Round at Memorial Park between Turbine Residential Ltd North End and Watsons PN Marist ended in a 0-0 stalemate as both teams missed out on bragging rights for the first half of the season. GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic have made it two wins from two and take the early lead on the ladder after winning 4-1 away at Levin AFC. In the only other match played a 72nd minute winner from Zachary Farmer for Isles Construction Massey University FC gave them the 1-0 win after they travelled to take on Alexander Electrical Napier Marist over in the Hawke’s Bay. The final game between ALH Gisborne Thistle and Napier City Rovers was postpone due to Covid in the Rovers camp and this match is now scheduled for ANZAC Day Monday the 25th of April.
Women’s Federation League
Again this week only one match was played as the game between OneStaff PN Marist and Team McGhie Football Whanganui was moved to this weekend coming. In the one match played it was Taradale AFC to come out with the win again at home this time 8-2 over NP Rangers AFC, Aleesha Heywood, Cara O’Neill and Isla Cleall-Harding all bagging braces for Taradale with Reyse Andrews getting a consolation brace for Rangers. Isles Construction Massey University FC had the Bye.
Yorb Taranaki Men’s Premiership
Saturday saw three matches played in the Premiership with unfortunately the game between Smith & Sons Eltham and TMT building Ltd Moturoa getting postponed. Atlas NP Rangers AFC continued their good form with a 6-0 away win over Novotel Woodleigh with Niall Leggett netting a hat-trick and his brother Devan a brace. Rampage Fitness FC Western needed a late winner from Alexander Best to win 2-1 when hosted by KP Joinery Waitara with Premier Heating NPBHS 1st XI and Rough Habits Hawera playing out a 1-1 draw. We had an entertaining Round 1 catch up matched played on Easter Monday between Premier Heating NPBHS 1st XI and Atlas NP Rangers AFC which ended in 3-3 draw. Boy’s High had the 2-1 lead mid-way through the second half before the Leggett brothers changed things in one minute, firstly with Devan equalising before Niall gave his side the lead but the students never gave in and tied things up through Jackson Bigwood in the 87th Minute.
Taranaki Men’s Championship
League new comers Landmark Homes FDMC Senior Team got a huge 1-0 win over last season’s Champions Millwards Roofing FC Western thanks to a 82nd minute winner from Leo Taylor. In the only other match played, two goals from Daniel Gilberd helped Inglewood AFC win 4-1 away at Smart Rehab & Physio Peringa United. The matches between Cunningham Construction Kaitake vs Western Autos Moturoa and Spectrum Decorating Services Woodleigh vs Trafficr NP Rangers were postponed. Cross Country Rental NPBHS 2nd XI defaulted to Mark Frost Electrical Hawera.
Taranaki Men’s Division 1
Shining Peak NP Rangers Oddbodz overcame a 1-0 deficit to score two late goals and defeat FC Western Flaming Wolverines 2-1 which retained them the Challenge Trophy. Mason Woods bagged three goals as Inglewood AFC won 6-0 away at McDonalds Real Estate Stratford. Taranaki Thru Tubing NP Rangers also won away 3-0 at Proglaze Waitara thanks to a double from John Breen. Withers Coachlines Moturoa snatched a 1-0 win when hosted by Paul Hamlin Builders Eltham with the final match ending in a 2-2 draw between Withers Coachlines FDMC Development Team and Wonder Minerals Kaponga.
Taranaki Men’s Division 2
Marty Suchy Harcourts FC Western are now leading the table after a 14-1 win when hosted by Town & Country Foods Waitara, Kayden Playle scored seven goals with doubles to Conor Ebert, Oliver Scott and Brent Youngson. Webber Building Kaitake won 11-0 at home when facing Peringa United Socials thanks to five goals from Jonathan Gomez plus a triple to Chester Oldfield and a double from David Gilmour. Pipeline Peringa United played out a 2-2 draw with Inglewood AFC, 4U Computer Solutions Hawera got a 2-1 away win over Stratford Reserves and Egmont Texturers NP Rangers won 2-0 at Rob Mason Electrical Group Woodleigh. Webber Building Kaitake hosted 4U Computer Solutions on Monday in a Round 1 catch up match with Kaitake coming out on top 10-0 thanks to Francis Harris scoring a hat trick plus braces from Joseph Means and Chester Oldfield.
Tungsten Legal Taranaki Women’s Premiership
Only three matches took place on Sunday with NP Rangers winning 4-2 at home over Inglewood, Mya Watkins netting twice for Rangers. TSH Moturoa won 5-0 away at Hipp Accounting Hawera thanks to doubles from Julie Withers and Lauren Murray. The final match ended 19-0 in favour of NPGHS 1st XI against Tungsten Legal Stratford, Riley Packman scoring six goals with hat tricks to Frieda Wilson, Zoe Miller and Georgia Macrae plus a double to Sophie Magon. The match between Bullitt Fabrications Eltham and Worley Woodleigh was postponed with Kaitake FC defaulting to Excel Refrigeration Moturoa. The Round 3 match between Liquid Beanz Peringa United and Naki Electrical Waitara was played the weekend before which ended 2-2.
