- In the battle of the Federation League Reserve Teams, Rogue Hop Napier Marist took on Havelock North Wanderers at Park Island. All indications early were that is was going to be a goal fest as there was one for each team in the first 11 minutes. These were followed by another goal a-piece before half time. - Defending Champs Palm City Port Hill hosted Maycenvale AFC in their first game of the campaign. Pre-Season talk had indicated that Maycenvale would be a tough test for all opponents this season. Talk proved to be fact as the Vale were too strong for Port Hill despite being down to 10 men from the 43rd minute (Keeper Hamish Long sent for denying a goal scoring opportunity) winning 2-3 away.

- In an even battle at Marewa Park between Burger Fuel Port Hill and Liquid Gold Maycenvale it could only be separated by a single goal. Unfortunately, the only goal of the game was put in by the visitors into the wrong net as Port Hill edged it 1-0.

- A young NCR Development Team were at home to Taradale AFC Reserves. Rovers couldn’t deal with the experienced goal scorer Dan Ball (Taradale) as he had the Maroons 0-3 up in 41 minutes with a hat-trick. Rovers found to goals to make the game close, but it wasn’t enough, going down 3-2.

- A competitive match took place at Petane Domain as Eskview Utd and Hastings Hibernian Pacificas both got their seasons underway. All scoring was completed in the first half as the match ended level at 1-1.

The Lotto Central Federation League kicked off with a bang on Saturday as Isles Construction Massey University FC defeated last years Champions Peggy Gordons NP Rangers 3-0 over at Merrilands Domain and Massey was reduced to 10 men just three minutes into the season. Last years Runners Up GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic got a hard fought 3-1 win when hosting Levin AFC and in the last match on Saturday Havelock North Wanderers got a early goal to hang on 1-0 for the victory against North End AFC. The Sunday match was a Marist derby when Alexander Electric Napier Marist entertained Watsons PN Marist over at Park Island and it was the Palmerston North sided that got all three points with a 5-1 win, the goal scorers being shared around. Waikanae Beach Top 10 Gisborne Thistle had the first round Bye and will get into action next week when they host GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic.
Sunday saw the start of the Women’s Federation League with Isles Constructed Massey University FC doing the weekend double over NP Rangers winning 6-3, braces to Sarah Gurnick for Massey and Holly Kleinsman for Rangers were the multiple scorers. OneStaff PN Marist returned to the league in style with a 6-2 home win over Team McGhie Football Whanganui with hat tricks to both Hannah Buzan and Jessie Falloon for Marist. Taradale AFC started the season off with the Bye but will jump into play next weekend when Massey come for a visit.
