Updtd 11/1 FEDERATION LEAGUE COMPETITION for 2012

Thursday, 17 November 2011

17 November 2011

FEDERATION LEAGUE COMPETITION for 2012

The Central Football Competition Review Panel has considered opportunities for Federation League in 2012. As part of this process the panel considered:

  • A paper from Red Sox Manawatu
  • A paper from Maycenvale United
  • Discussions at a meeting of the Federation Senior clubs in Palmerston North on 11 September 2011

Recommendations have been presented to the CF Board and as a result of those recommendations the Board has elected to retain the status quo for the 2012 season, with the intent of introducing a single Federation League for the 2013 season.

The Federation League Competition structure for 2012 will therefore be:

Pacific and Western Premiership Leagues

 1.       Both Leagues will be based on a maximum of 8 (no less than 6) team competition per League.

a)      8 team - League split after 14 matches and teams stay within top four or bottom four regardless of points won. (Total 17 games)
b)      6 team – Teams will play each other 3 times (Total 15 games)
c)       No byes will be permitted

2.       Composite teams based upon set criteria will be allowed.

3.       Any region represented by a composite team will not be allowed to have separate club entries.

4.       Teams will only contest their regional competitions i.e. Central Hawke’s Bay, Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay will contest the Eastern competition and Tararua, Manawatu, Wanganui and Taranaki the Western Competition.

 5.       The winners of the Pacific and Western Leagues will play off against the winner of the comparable Capital Federation competition for the right to play off for the Central League

6.       Play – Offs

     a)         Pacific  and Western Premiership League Play-Offs

  i.            The two top eligible teams (one from each League) are able to compete for a Central League playoff position. The winner of each premiership will go into a home and away play-off to determine the team allowed to play-off for Central League. If the winners of each league are not eligible or do not wish to enter the Central League then the 2nd place teams may compete for a position.

ii.            Reserve teams of clubs who are participating in the Central League cannot enter the play-offs.

iii.            Players of the Club taking part in the playoffs are required to be registered players of the club concerned and have been registered for that Club prior to 1st July of that year.

iv.            The play-offs are considered to be an extension of a Club’s season. Therefore, cautions and suspensions will carry over into a playoff series.

 v.            After match functions must be provided by the home team for all fixtures in the play offs

7.       There will be an entry fee of $200.00 (including GST) which will contribute towards prize money and referee expenses

 8.       Any club entering the Premiership competitions must confirm in writing whether they will or will not contest the Central League play offs if successful in finishing in a position to do so

9.       Entries for the 2012 Pacific  and Western Premiership Leagues will close on 1 February 2012. Earlier confirmation would be appreciated.

10.   Waikato/Bay of Plenty Football, Mainland Football and Capital Football have been approached regarding the possibility of the winner under clause 5 above playing off comparable competition winners in a NZF Club Championship on artificial turf in Wellington in September 2012. This still to be confirmed but Central Football will confirm further details as soon as they available.

Central Football would like to thank all those that have contributed their thoughts and papers for consideration for the 2012 League. All thoughts and papers have been retained for future consideration.

Phil Holt

Federation League Manager
