Central Football announce NWL Head Coach

NWL Head Coach - Barry Scullion

Central Football is excited to announce the appointment of Barry Scullion as the National Women’s League Head Coach for the upcoming 2019 season. Scullion, who departed yesterday for China as assistant coach/analyst of the New Zealand Women’s Under 17 team, was pleased to take on the National Women’s role.

“I’m really excited and honoured to have been asked to lead the Central team in the National Women’s League this season,” Scullion said.

Scullion brings his passion for coaching the women’s game with over nine years experience working in female football – from coaching assorted age groups to supporting players moving from the talent pathway into national age group teams from Cambridge (England) and many more along the way to his current position as head coach of Palmerston North Marist Women’s team in the W League.

Currently employed as the Community Development Officer for Central Football Manawatu, Scullion has a great understanding of the playing base within the Federation.

“We have some fantastic talent within the Federation and players from Central who are living in other parts of the country.  We would like to think that a very large majority of players eligible to wear our colours and represent this federation will do all they can to be a part of the team. Whether that is up and comers or the more experienced players.  It will be the role of the management team and myself to ensure we create the right environment for the group to achieve our targets”.

The National Women’s League will take place between September and December 2019. Information on trials and the full Central Football Women’s calendar will follow in the near future.

We wish Barry all the best for what will be his first season with Central Football Women and can’t wait to see how the season unfolds.
