Birnie Appointed Head Coach of NZ U-17’s National Women’s Team

Central Football FDO, Leon Birnie has officially been named the NZ U-17’s Women’s Head Coach for the 2017/2018 season.

Birnie is no stranger to the national scene, having previously been the Head Coach for the NZU20’s Women’s National Team in 2015/2016, where his team was triumphant over Ghana 1:0.

This upcoming year will be equally as exciting with his team heading to Samoa for the 2017 OFC U-17’s Women’s Championship this August. The U-17’s will compete from August 4th through until the 25th, where they will look to capture their ticket to Uruguay for the World Cup in 2018.

“ Its great to be involved again, I really enjoyed my experience with the NZU20 squad and I’m excited to start working with the NZu17 players,” states Birnie.

Birnie will look to host an identification camp from July 10th– 12th in preparation for the OFC qualifying squad traveling to Samoa in August. Central Football wishes Birnie and the U-17’s all the best as they prepare for the upcoming season.
